There is a new foundation model in town! A geospatial AI foundation model by NASA and IBM, open sourced on Hugging Face. Pre-trained on over 250,000 terabytes of NASA mission data, the model is based on vision transformers and masked encoder architecture.

Thanks to Hugging Face Spaces, I took it out for a spin and the results are mind-blowing. On the left is a Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) from a geospatial analysis on SageMaker Studio Lab and on the right is temporal crop classification via a fine-tuned model on HF Spaces.
